PHYLIP is the abbreviation of Phylogeny Inference Package. It was developed by the Felsenstein Laboratory at the University of Washington and is one of the earliest and most comprehensive software packages for phylogenetic inference. It contains over 30 independent programs, covering various methods for constructing phylogenetic trees such as distance method, maximum likelihood method, and parsimony method, as well as auxiliary functions like sequence data simulation and tree comparison. PHYLIP supports the input of multiple data types and is a classic tool in the field of phylogenetics.
