ADMIXTURE is a software tool used to estimate the ancestral components of individuals from multi-locus SNP genotype data. It employs the same statistical model as STRUCTURE (an ancestral model based on Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and linkage equilibrium), but achieves significant acceleration through block relaxation algorithm and sequential quadratic programming algorithm, and its computational efficiency far exceeds the EM algorithm and MCMC sampling methods. ADMIXTURE is one of the standard tools in population genetics for inferring population structure and individual ancestral composition.
